TYPE 2 IS COMING – GAMESHOPE BOTHY MICROADVENTURE

It was already dark by the time we gathered in Bolerno post work. Heeding the weather report everyone had donned various limb warmers, jackets and gloves to close any gaps that the already chilling air could reach. We discussed the less than positive forecast for the evening and how our planned accommodation of Gameshope Bothy lacked a stove or a fire to warm us through the night. Moral was further weakened when I informed the group of the mandatory river crossing to reach the bothy. Once we had established that nobody was actually that enthusiastic about this bikepacking trip we set off...

GRINDURO โ€“ SURLY STEAMROLLER BIKE CHECK VERSION 2.0

Grinduro has come around again and you are probably thinking, "He is still riding that silly olden times/fashion trend fixed gear bike and hasn't learned any lessons since last year". Well you would only be half right. I am still riding fixed but this year I have made some vital upgrades to maximise shredding. Here is my Surly Steamroller Grinduro v 2.0...

THE DIRTY REIVER 2018

Keilder Forest is one of these areas, landrover tracks and forest roads wiggle all over this remote area giving keen pedalers hundreds of options for exploring. This makes it a perfect location to hold the Dirty Reiver, a 200km (and 130km) gravel grinding event...

A TASTE OF THE BADGER DIVIDE

It seems to be a running trend that if I need a day off work to go on an adventure something will get in the way to make sure that I can't get it off. When the first group ride of the Badger Divide got arranged, I was fairly disappointed that I could not get… Continue reading A TASTE OF THE BADGER DIVIDE

FIXED GEAR GLENTRESS GRAVEL ADVENTURE

My Strava routes page is rather full of half conceived rides to curiosities unknown and interesting looking routes pillaged from my feed or websites. One ride that particularly sat in the back of my conscious was a ride to Glentress that rando-bro and now industry insider Jack Luke once rode and wrote about. As my shameful appreciation of gravel bloomed I became more and more keen to tackle this gravel/MTB hybrid. An oddly sunny weekend loomed and it seemed that this would be the perfect opportunity to complete the route but also test my setup for Grinduro in the following weeks...

GRINDURO – SURLY STEAMROLLER BIKE CHECK

For better or worse I have often been a preacher the best bicycle is the bicycle you enjoy riding the most so here is my Surly Steamroller Fixed Gear Grinduro setup...
